About Me
Hi all, I'm Ali from Scotland and I'm the creator here at The World Of Sound.
Over tens, or even hundreds of thousands of years, one thing that never really changes much is the sound of the natural world. A river still sounds like a river, a waterfall still sounds like a waterfall, a little blackbird would sing a melody much like the one before it and the wind blowing through tree tops sounds the same today as it has done for as long as trees have existed.
From the very earliest days of mankind, we evolved as a species surrounded by this wonderful ambience. What we hear today is exactly what our early distant relatives would've heard so many moons ago so perhaps this is why we, as humans, find such comfort in it.
...And It Began With A Flu
This might also explain why a couple of years ago while suffering from the worst flu I had ever encountered, the only comfort I found in anything was in the sound of soft flowing water and soothing bird songs.
No paracetamol, ibuprofen or Lemsip would even make a dent in this ordeal. No, just soft flowing rivers, distant waterfalls and the little song birds singing their morning praises, and who I would come to appreciate beyond all else at that time, would be the only remedy to the type of flu where I'd literally given myself 50/50.
I've never been so grateful for anything as I was to the YouTubers who took the time and care to capture and upload their wonderful videos. And there were many. I simply let their videos play one after the other, periodically waking up over the next couple of days to turn the TV back on when it would shut itself off.
A New Day, A New Dawn...
However being a flu, even one sent from hell, a few days later and I was no worse for wear but also, being from Scotland, I'm utterly surrounded by natural beauty in every direction.
From the Ochil Gorges to the Highland Glens, from the Fairy Pools of Skye to the white sand beaches of Iona, I knew that from then on that I too would like to offer some comfort, to someone, somewhere by sharing the stunning natural treasures of Scotland if someone, somewhere should ever need it.
DESTINATION: SCOTLAND
Scotland was crowned "the most beautiful country in the world" by the influential Rough Guide reader poll - only dropping to 3rd when they unfortunately decided to rate the UK as a whole as opposed to the beautiful yet very distinct nations of Scotland, England, Wales & Nr Ireland.
I found this genre when I had the flu. I'm sure others must have found it due to sleep problems, PTSD or anxiety and perhaps others again have stumbled across it looking for ambient sounds for mediation, to calm a tired baby, for study, or simply to find some peace, balance or just to relax.
Regardless, YouTube has made wonderful things possible. Taking us to places we'll never be and bringing the natural world into our wellbeing wherever we are so thank you YouTube, thank you to the natural world we live in and thank you to all the YouTubers who take the time to capture their moments and share them with us.
It's an honour and a privilege to be a part of it.
Welcome to The World Of Sound - Deep, Sleep, Relax.
